Cities in Empires of Sorcery allow the player to gather resources, do research, create units, etc. Each city contains a population that can be divided between several areas. For most races these are food, production and research. However, some races have subtle differences: undead for instance, have no use for food and instead require negative energy for sustenance. The player can direct production for every city under his control, commanding the citizens to construct certain buildings, train military units, engage in trade, etc. Each city's maximum population is dependent on the amount of food that can be produced in the area, which in turn is determined by the terrain types surrounding the city and the race of the city's population.
